The e-learning programme objectives and learning outcomes:


• State the nutritional needs of older people in care homes/community • Demonstrate good practice guidance for monitoring dietary intakes using food record charts • Identify what is undernutrition, the causes, problems, cost and benefits of treating • Identify patients at risk of undernutrition using ‘MUST’ nutritional screening tool both paper and electronic formats • Demonstrate how to measure a patient’s height using ulna length and measure a mid-arm upper circumference (MUAC) • Explain suitable treatments for patients identified as moderate and high risk of undernutrition using a food first approach • Be able to to advise weight gain for people requiring a special diet, including diabetes, pureed and cardio-protective (high cholesterol)


• State when to use and how to monitor nutritional supplements • Explain how to complete a dietary assessment • Be able to advise on balanced eating according to the ‘Eat Well Plate’which is suitable for undernutrition • State when to refer to a dietitian • Identify their professional responsibilities in regards to the national guidelines and recommendations.
