Plodding, galloping, dashing, strolling and spending – 2011 was a great year of fundraising fun!
Despite the climate – both economic and weather-wise – thousands of St Giles supporters from across the region have been as eager as ever to get involved in some fantastic fundraising events for a good cause in their community.
Here’s just a taste of what’s been going on for the hospice over the past few months... PUMPKIN PLOD
Plans are already in place for this year’s Pumpkin Plod after the runaway success of 2011’s frightful fundraiser for St Giles Walsall Hospice.
The Halloween-themed stroll for all the family around the grounds of Walsall Arboretum raised over £1,500 for the hospice last October.
This year’s Pumpkin Plod takes place on Sunday 28th October, and will include a walk along a pushchair and wheelchair- friendly course, while for little legs there’s also a toddle along the Trick or Treat Trail.
CHRISTMAS FAYRE
Despite the continuing impact of the recession, the hordes of eager shoppers who attended our popular Christmas Fayre were only too happy to spend, spend, spend!
More than 1,200 bargain hunters flocked to
Whittington Village Hall on 20th November for the festive extravaganza, which raised in excess of £7,000 for hospice care.
Stars of the show were Cloud and Bernard from Blithefield Reindeer Farm – and, of course, everybody who supported the fayre, including our dedicated army of volunteers!
GATE GALLOP
Hardy athletes braved sweltering conditions to make the 28th annual Tamworth Gate Gallop a runaway success.
Around 350 runners of all ages descended on the Anker Valley Sports Complex in June for the 10km race, a fun run and children’s races – raising the magnificent sum of £6,000 for St Giles Hospice.
The gallop, which was deservedly named Charity Event of the Year by the Tamworth Herald in 2011, takes place this year on Sunday 1st July.
CHINA TREK
A team of 21 intrepid trekkers raised the magnificent sum of £42,000 for St Giles Hospice with a sponsored walk along the Great Wall of China.
The adventurous group of walkers spent seven days trekking 45 miles along a stretch of the world-famous landmark in October.
Some group members swelled their donations to St Giles by holding fundraising events, including discos, party nights and car washes.
6 FESTIVE FESTIVALS
Two Christmas festivals raised more than £2,000 for St Giles Walsall Hospice over the festive period.
Sparkle Into A Bloxwich Christmas and the Aldridge Christmas Festival were organised by the towns’ respective Business Partnerships, and were well supported by hundreds of local people.
Both events kicked off with a Santa Dash, which preceded a host of seasonal fundraising activities.
