SPONSORING A ST GILES WALSALL HOSPICE NURSE Without nurses, hospice care simply wouldn’t exist.
At St Giles Hospice, not only do the nurses perform an essential role in providing specialist care for local people living with cancer and other serious illnesses, but they also offer vital comfort and support for their families and carers.
It costs £20,000 to fund a hospice nurse for one year, £80 for one day, or £10 for an hour, and every minute makes a massive difference to patients and their families.
The Sponsor a Nurse Appeal currently running at St Giles Walsall Hospice is one way of helping to make sure patients can continue to receive the invaluable care nurses provide.
It couldn’t be easier to support the appeal, with supporters able to make a regular donation by standing order or make a one-off donation.
You can find out more about the campaign by visiting the St Giles Hospice website. Thanks for all your support!
Thank you to everyone who has donated or raised money for St Giles – without your support, the good work the hospice does for the local community would not be possible.
Here are just some of the things our fantastic fundraisers have been up to in recent months. A welcome delivery
Roger Mays, Human Resources Director for UPS, handed over a cheque for a cool $31,814 – around £20,750 – from the US-owned shipping company, which has a depot in Tamworth. The money will be used to purchase 20 syringe drivers for the Compassus Centre, to aid symptom control for patients. A team from the UPS Tamworth depot recently spent some time volunteering at the St Giles Hospice centre in Sutton.
Shipshape support
A big thank you to the members of the Royal Naval Association’s Bloxwich branch, who have donated the grand sum of £3,128 to St Giles Walsall Hospice.
The money came from the proceeds the association received when it sold its premises in Elmore Green Road – members now meet at Colebatch’s Club in Leamore.
Branch chairman Gordon Witton says: “We were pleased to be able to support such a worthy cause that helps people in need in our community.”
Bike ride bonanza
Richard Bradwell marked his 60th birthday with a 500- mile bike ride from the Scottish island of Islay to his home in Newton Solney, Burton upon Trent. His 10-day slog in the saddle raised an incredible £33,000 for St Giles Hospice.
Family’s fundraiser
The Turner family from Short Heath raised an amazing £5,800 for St Giles Walsall Hospice in memory of Ann Turner, who was cared for in the hospice during her final days. Ann’s husband Mick organised a charity golf day and a family disco in November, while their son-in-law Dean completed a sponsored bike ride for St Giles Hospice.
Players pitch in
Bowls players from the St Giles Hospice Sunday Charity League raised a total of £1,266 for the hospice in 2011. This takes the league’s total donations to almost £14,000 since it began supporting St Giles Hospice in 1999. Members of the league’s nine teams are pictured here at their annual presentation evening, held at Alrewas Royal British Legion Club.
