Explore House of Gaia During Open House
L
earn about the unique, heart- centered missions and pro- grams available at House of Gaia, Bee Gaia’s nonprofit community center, during an Open House tak-
ing place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., April 6. The 3,500-square-foot center in North Naples is home to a range of initiatives that foster a global perspective to promote a more peaceful, creative and conscientious world by educating, connecting and building community through programs of art, culture, well-being, travel and com- munity service.
House of Gaia, a dream child of Director Lulu Carter, began through its flag- ship program, Outside the Box, which has been providing creative and educa- tional programming to Naples youth and families since 2008, connecting people across race, culture, religion, age and physical ability. As the community grew, members began offering services to each other that included yoga classes for breast cancer survivors; Brazilian martial arts classes; support groups for children that have lost a sibling; co-ops for families that homeschool their children; and services designed for special-needs children. As these programs expanded, Bee Gaia was born, and the House of Gaia opened in fall 2011. April programs include Dinnerworks and Doctor Gourmet nutritional work- shops; cloth diapering classes; meditation sessions; and a kick-off event about how to write one’s life story. On April 22, Earth Day will be celebrated at Koreshan State Historic Site, with children’s activities through House of Gaia, where kids can explore the ways of Earth using playful curiosity. Teens and adults can enjoy a continuous flow of unique experiences offering an opportunity to reconnect with Earth through Project NatureConnect and Janet Weisberg (see article on page 43). Scholarships are available for all generations.
