Lee County recently purchased a 219-acre conservation preserve on Pine Island for $772,000 that was funded by the Conservation 20/20 Program with a $20,000 contribution from the Calusa Land Trust and Nature Preserve of Pine Island. The parcel includes 82 acres of mangrove wetlands that are important as a nursery for juvenile fish and to filter water pollutants before they reach Pine Island Creek. The Conservation 20/20 program, which buys environ- mentally important lands for preservation, is funded by a property tax that was approved by referendum in 1996. Since the first purchase in 1997, the program has made 109 land purchases, and the land inventory now stands at 24,448 acres.

Correction T

he information below clarifies the health care services offered by Germain Tarquino and St. Paul’s Holistic In- stitute of Southwest Florida, which we first mentioned in our January local feature, “Shifting the Focus of Health Care.” We regret any previous oversights or inaccuracies. Germain Tarquino, board-certified holistic health practitioner, nutritional consultant and founder of St. Paul’s Holistic Institute of Southwest Florida, uses an acoustic car- diograph and a forensic blood analysis to determine deficien- cies in organs of the body. Using the outcome of test results, he personalizes treatment and wellness programs, working closely with a board-certified, integrated/alternative medi- cine and naturopathic physician and a doctor of chiropractic. Tarquino specializes in nutritional counseling for cardiovas- cular issues; osteoporosis; and kidney, liver and gastrointesti- nal challenges.
