T is acquisition gave Peerless a facility in
Jeannette, PA, which handles much of the manufacturing for the custom lifting and heavy lifting industries, but ACCO did not want to sell their main facility in York, PA. In the summer of 2006, Peerless hauled 220 tractor trailer-loads of equipment, supplies, tools, and inventory a thousand miles northwest to Winona. To integrate all of it, Peerless undertook a massive rearrangement of the Winona facility that doubled its production capacity. ACCO was also the gateway to the marine market: Peerless installed a hot dip galvanizing facility, and thanks to ACCO’s expertise and equipment, it now produces high-quality chain for marine use. Peerless was also able to increase its maximum chain size from 5/8” to 1”. T e acquisition of Letellier was a long time in the making. When Peerless fi rst approached Letellier, the time wasn’t right, but six years later, in 2010, Peerless approached the company again and the owner was ready to retire. Letellier is especially valuable to Peerless because its manufacturing facility outside of Chicago

allows for a high degree of customization, which Peerless passes on to its customers. T e company’s most recent acquisition
was the Security Chain Company just months ago in 2011. In addition to its manufacturing facility in Oregon, Security operates a facility in Japan staff ed almost entirely by local Japanese employees who understand the country’s business culture. Security has also brought a number of exciting new traction and cargo control products to the company toolbox. T ese four acquisitions have allowed
Peerless to truly take off , branch into new industries, and lay the groundwork for the future as a global company. However, the word “acquisition” often brings up negative connotations: eff ective processes retooled into less eff ective ones, sprawling bureaucracies, and lower workplace quality of life for staff . Peerless is determined not to be that way. Wynn says, “When we acquire a company, we make sure that we acknowledge and respect the culture they have. Going forward, we make sure they know they’ve got a seat at the table and that they’re going to be welcomed into the Peerless family.” Peerless’s engineering and management
