MITCH HAUSMAN President & COO, Delta Rigging & Tools

In 1979, when you initially joined WireCo, what drew you to the business?

I

had just graduated from Missouri Western State University with a degree in secondary education and a teaching certifi cate and was looking for a job. A family neighbor was the sales manager at WireCo and had an opening. I interviewed for the position and received the job and haven’t looked back since.

You were with Southwest Wire Rope for almost 20 years through many transitions, what did you learn from your experience? And is there anything you would do diff erently?

I was actually with Southwest for nearly 30 years, and I think my biggest lesson was probably that you are only as good as the organization that surrounds you and that it takes a real team eff ort for any business to grow and succeed. Everything I’ve done and gone through has been a learning experience and I wouldn’t do a thing diff erently.

You had been out of the business for a year before joining Delta Rigging and Tools as their new President & COO, what have you been up to over this past year?

I actually thought I had retired, but my wife had other plans (Retirement is the only job I’ve ever been fi red from!)

How’s your experience with Delta Rigging & Tools going?

It’s like living a dream. It’s a great company, with great people and tremendous opportunity. T e product line here is so diverse, and the quality of our products and vendor relations is exceptional. It’s really fun working with and learning about such an extensive product line (in both sales and rentals), as well as developing new markets and new customers.

Where do you see Delta in one year/ fi ve years?

We feel confi dent that we have a plan in place that will support our continued, rapid growth over the next fi ve years.

What are your top three short-term goals for the company?

Sustained growth based on: 1. Maintaining current quality of personnel

2. Adding to that bench strength with the addition of equally high-quality personnel

3. Continuing to provide our customers with high-quality products, services and value.

What challenges do you face in your new role?

We have so many opportunities for growth here, it’s really about keeping up with the pace of growth and leveraging the opportunities that are coming our way (basically learning how to drink from a fi rehose!).

How have you seen things change in the Industry? Do you see anything that needs improvement?

Like all businesses today the biggest change is just in the rate of speed that things happen - in e-commerce, just in time delivery, customer and internal communications, the web, social networks and more. T ere are always things to improve, but at Delta right now we’re really focusing on the things we’re doing right and making sure we continue to do them to provide industry-leading support for our customers.

What are you most proud of about our industry or from your experience in the industry?

T e great friends that I’ve made throughout the years! ❙ WIRE ROPE EXCHANGE MARCH-APRIL 2012 21
