remained primarily a regional company through the 1990s, when it expanded into the national market. Its transformation into a nationwide


market leader began in 2004, when Peerless acquired Weissenfels USA. It went on to acquire American Chain Company (ACCO) in 2006, Letellier Material Handling Equipment in 2010, and Security Chain Company in 2011. Besides their main location in Winona, the company now operates nine manufacturing and distribution centers scattered across the


country from Oregon to Rhode Island. It even has a warehouse, office, and nine employees based in Japan. Each acquisition that Peerless made has


broadened and strengthened the company in different ways. Te acquisition of Weissenfels was Peerless’s first step towards a global presence: Steve Lister, who ran Weissenfels, had years of experience running a chain plant in Italy. He now uses his international connections and experience to head up an international department for Peerless – the first in the company’s history.


Te acquisition of ACCO was


remarkable for its timing, and came at a crucial point for Peerless. “If you look at the milestones in our history, that’s probably one of the biggest ones,” explains Tom Wynn, President of Peerless. “We’d gotten to a point in 2005 where George [Kosidowski, Executive Vice President] and his group were basically outselling our capacity to make product. It was fortunate and a little serendipitous that we approached the owners of ACCO and they were interested in getting out of the chain business.”
