• DETECTIVE Superintendent Jo Oakley, pictured, has been appointed borough commander of Bromley. Jo, who began her new role on Monday, joined the Met in 1990 when she was posted to Lambeth borough as a constable. She was promoted to detective sergeant in 1997 and joined Southwark borough, where she worked with outgoing Bromley chief Charles Griggs. In addition to completing a secondment to the Home Office, Jo has worked in Croydon, where she served as detective inspector, chief inspector, superintendent and finally acting borough commander.

Now that’s just ace! Matthew, 9, meets tennis hero Berdych


A NINE-YEAR-OLD from West Wickham was served a special treat when he met his tennis hero, Tomas Berdych, last week.


Matthew, who is under treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital, joined fellow patients to watch the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at


The O2 in Greenwich.


After enjoying all the action on court, Matthew got exclusive access to seventh- ranked Berdych, who beat Janko Tipsarevic in an enthralling Group A match. Matthew was born with serious heart defects meaning his heart couldn’t pump blood


around his body and his lungs couldn’t oxygenate his blood. He had his first major surgery when he was just a few days old and when he was a year old he had another operation to insert shunts into his pulmonary artery. He is pictured with Tomas Berdych.
