bid to recruit new members. The Mayor of Bromley, Councillor David McBride, also took part in last Saturday’s membership drive, held by Orpington Organ & Keyboard Club.

Shoppers at the Walnuts centre were entertained by organist Alex Payler, who played a selection of music from films and shows as well as classical pieces. Originally known as Orpington Organ Club, the group was founded some 30 years ago by Mr Derek Cadde, who owned a music shop at the north end of the high street, where Wilkinson’s the opticians is today. Over time, the club has continued to grow and is now located at the Crofton Halls.

“Over the last few years, due to the recession and changes in interests, the membership has sadly dwindled somewhat, hence the need for a new membership campaign,” explained John Parker, chairman of the group.

The club meets at the Crofton Small Hall, on the last Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm for 8pm (except December) for a two-and-a-half hour concert, with a break for refreshments. The charge is £7 (£5 for members).

Concerts resume in the New Year, on Tuesday, January 31, when visitors will be entertained by Ryan Edwards. “An evening of excellent musical entertainment awaits,” says John. For more information, call 01689 876800.
