LOCAL COUNTRY STORE CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF TRADING
Situated on the Main Road, just south of Biggin Hill, you will find Baverstock Country Supplies - one of the few traditional animal feed merchants still remaining. Baverstock was started by Jim Clark in 1981 and the shop has continued to serve the local equine, farming and pet owning community ever since. Baverstock was a major career change for Jim, an industrial chemist by profession, but the business and its land gave him the chance to leave the rat race and return to the country life of his boyhood years in Suffolk.

Jim formed a partnership with his daughter, Lizzie, in 1995, and they were joined by Lorraine Adcock as manager 11 years ago. Jim‘s hard-work ethic and determination has steered the business through difficult times, including the disastrous fire of 1992. Today Jim, Lorraine & Lizzie continue to work hard to give the customers choice & value for money— cheerfully assisted by Rachel Cole & Daisy Hindle. It is a combination of skills, knowledge & interests that has stood the test of time and Baverstock continues to thrive and grow.
As animal owners themselves, the staff have a wealth of practical experience to help their customers make informed choices. Among the staff members, the animals currently owned include horses, sheep, cattle, pigs, geese, ducks, chickens, rabbits, dogs, cats. & fish. Sadly, Baverstock’s biggest animal celebrity, Ben the Hereford Bull, passed away recently at a ripe old age. This gentle giant is sadly missed by staff & customers alike.
So many new developments in animal foods have been made over the last 30 years, so much has changed. What will never change at Baverstock is a dedication to old-fashioned customer service and the availability of friendly, knowledgeable advice.
