rpington’s first ever Christmas Tree Festival promises to be a spectacular delight for all the senses. From Saturday, 3 to Sunday, 11 December, visitors to Orpington Methodist Church in Sevenoaks Road will be able to see more than 80 Christmas trees. The trees are being placed and decorated by businesses and shops, church groups and charities, clubs and societies and families and individuals.

Come and wonder at the imaginative, thought-provoking, humorous decorations and vote for your favourite trees while listening to live music provided by talented singers, musicians and performers from the church family and the local community. After soaking up the sights and sounds of the festival, visitors will be able to buy refreshments and on Saturday, 3, Wednesday, 7 and Saturday, 10 December, light lunches will also be served.


In addition to the fantastic array of Christmas trees, live music and tasty refreshments, some special events are taking place at the church during the Festival. On


Tree viewing times: Saturday, 3 December, 10am to 6pm; Sunday, 4 December, 2pm to 6pm; Monday, 5 and Tuesday, 6 December, 2pm to 8pm; Wednesday, 7 December, 10am to 6pm; Thursday, 8 and Friday, 9 December, 2pm to 8pm; Saturday, 10 December, 10am to 6pm; Sunday, 11 December, 2pm to 6pm. Admission including programme and voting slip is £2. Free admission for accompanied children under 16.

Saturday, 3 December between 11am and 4pm there will be a Christmas Market including stalls and activities for children.


A talk on Christmas Trees and Traditions will be given on Wednesday, 7 December at 7pm by Shirley Newton. Shirley is a Freeman of the City of London and Blue Badge Guide, whose talks are always informative and entertaining. Tickets cost £5 and are free for accompanied children under 16. On Saturday, 10 December at 7pm a concert will be given by the Orpington Rock Choir. The Choir is conducted by Nik Haley, who has written original songs and music for television and radio broadcasts, theatre and film. The concert will include upbeat popular, Gospel and Motown music and the opportunity to sing along with the Rock Choir in a selection of seasonal music and carols. Tickets cost adults £10, concessions £8, family tickets £20.

The Christmas Tree Festival will close with an Advent carol service among the trees on Sunday, 11 December at 6.30pm. This will be the last opportunity to see the Christmas trees and everyone is welcome.
