REAL WEDDINGS | Brittany & Christopher

How did you two meet? A good friend of mine in high school graduated a year before me and joined the United States Air Force. The Christmas after I graduated high school myself, that same friend came back to visit home and brought a friend from his training along with him. That friend was Chris. I lived with my brother at the time and the four of us (Chris, our friend, my brother and I) spent a lot of time together that week. My brother and I hosted a New Year’s Party at the end of the week, where Chris snuck his phone number into my cell phone and the rest is our fairy tale.

How long was your engagement? From the time we met to the time we held our legal ceremony, our dating and engagement period lasted a total of 13 weeks-all of which was long-distance. Chris was stationed at an Air Force Base in Oklahoma and I was still living in Ohio with my brother.

What inspired your wedding theme? Nature, the ocean, my love for summertime, with vintage details. My photographer called it “vintage ocean chic.” I never actually chose a theme, but I got a lot of my inspiration from the landscape. One of my favorite décor items was the drift wood and seashells we used as candle holders all along the balcony that my bridesmaids and I found while taking a spur of the moment walk down the beach.

What inspired your wedding color palette? My favorite color is ocean blue…from there I incorporated other shades of blue and the natural colors of the ocean landscape. Officially- the color palette consisted of white, off-white, sand, ocean blue and other various shades of blue as well as dark wood.

What was special about where you got married? The venue itself didn’t have any real significance to Chris or I, but it was refreshing to experience the amazing hospitality of the residents of Old Orchard Beach…one lady even gave away her fried dough to us simply because we had never tried it before and the next door neighbors at the beach house even braved the 50 degree weather to stand out at the beach and watch us exchange vows and waited until the recessional to personally congratulate us on our marriage.

What do-it-yourself projects did you do? Bride’s headpiece: I ordered a foot of ocean blue Russian veiling online and slipped it through a hair comb. It was easy and didn’t take much time at all, but it was my favorite accessory from the day and the color really popped in the photographs.
