UK-based Cockett Marine Oil has appointed Nils Flemming Rasmussen as general manager of its new Copenhagen office, which Anders Falck Kobbernagel has also joined as a bunker trader. Cockett Marine Oil last year signed a long- term storage deal with Oikos Ltd to provide an advanced fuel oil storage and blending facility at the Oikos Canvey Island site close to the Thames estuary. Cockett already operates a bunkers-only facility there, supplying vessels transiting the English Channel. The bunkering operations are a very short deviation from the shipping lanes and the new storage facility is well situated to support the established service as well as the barge service that Cockett operates on the Thames and the Southend deepwater anchorages. The deal with Oikos supports
the building of a dedicated
bunker facility with a capacity of 32,000m3 from four tanks. Cockett has ambitious plans to develop
bunkering services in and around the UK and English Channel ports. It anticipates that end- users throughout the region will enjoy a boost to service levels when the new purpose-built facility comes on line in April this year. Another major influence for the investment was the development of the London Gateway terminal by DP World, which is located very close to the Oikos terminal and whose formal opening date is fourth-quarter 2013. South Africa-based Grindrod, which owns Cockett Marine Oil, is keen to become a major player in the region. The group already has a physical supply capability in the UK and Rotterdam, operating barges in these locations as well as in the South African market through its Unical vehicle. Hamburg-based bunker supplier Bominflot in the past year has strengthened its teams in Germany, Hong Kong and Rio de Janeiro, and has set up a joint supply venture with Peru Marine Oil for deliveries in the port of Callao. IFO 380 will be supplied by the 3,000-tonne capacity Libertad E. Gas oil and IF 380 are now also supplied by the company in the Spanish port of Valencia using the 4,120 dwt double- hulled bunker tanker Besiktas Pera.
A continuing expansion of activities is reported
by Aegean Marine Petroleum Network, whose recent developments include a 20-year concession with the Panamanian Maritime Authority to operate onshore storage facilities in the ports of Cristobal and Balboa on an exclusive basis. The two facilities currently have a total capacity of around 3 million barrels and cater to approximately 14,000 transits a year.

Tenerife will be managed from the group’s existing service centre in Las Palmas, with anticipated total annual marine fuel sales of more than 1.5 million tonnes. With the Panamanian and Tenerife developments, Aegean says it will now serve 19 markets embracing over 50 ports. Rosneft Marine UK, a subsidiary of Russian state-owned oil company OJSC Rosneft, has started deliveries to Sakhalin Energy Investment under the terms of an exclusive contract signed last October. The agreement covers a Sakhalin Energy fleet which includes three crude tankers and five LNG carriers with an average individual bunker intake of 1,800 tonnes and 1,000 tonnes respectively. Rosneft Marine is appointed to supply and deliver marine fuel to Sakhalin Energy in the port of Nakhodka, the closest port in Russia’s Far East to its Prigorodnoye complex. Sakhalin Energy had previously bunkered in the ports of Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong.
“In the last 12 months we have made a
number of investments to add modern vessels to our fleet and build our operational capacity,” reports Vladimir Brezhnev, director of Rosneft Marine UK. “We are committed to continually raising our quality and environmental standards and have begun looking for a new 5,000-6,000 dwt ice-class barge capable of supplying fuel directly to the ports on Sakhalin Island.” Sakhalin Energy’s commercial director Andrey Okhotkin anticipates the deal will enhance its marine operations through the delivery of premium quality fuel at competitive prices. The Aegis Group has entered the Indian
bunkering market, its marine products division aiming to offer an extensive range of fuels, marine lubricants and technical services at various locations. Bunkering in India, traditionally a monopoly
of state-owned companies, recently attracted other key players has such as
Chemoil which joined forces with Adani Enterprises to open for business. MP
