He also murdered three of Pite- zel’s children, as well as two Texas sisters who were railroad heir- esses.


Following his convic-


tion, Holmes confessed to 30 murders and was paid $7,500 ($200,000 in today’s terms) by the Hearst Newspapers for his confession. On May 7, 1896, Holmes was hanged at Moya- mensing Prison, end- ing the life of one of the most cold-blooded killers ever to walk the earth.


Newspapers were filled with graphic accounts of Holmes’ murders during his 1985 trial in Philadelphia.
