ourse leader Charlie Lambert is still a working sports jour- nalist, with an enviable contacts book that means he is regularly asked to provide students for top work experience placements such as working on the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year programme.
Charlie works with senior lecturer Colm Griffith, former Man- chester Evening News sub-editor and sports writer. They pro- vide an impressive programme of visiting lecturers. During intensive news days, these professionals offer expertise as students work against tight deadlines to produce professional standard packages. Working journalists also come in to offer an insight into the varied world of sports journalism.
Recent visiting lecturers have included Andy Bayes, Radio Lancashire sports reporter; Gary Flintoff, Five Live sports reporter; John Clayton, managing editor Radio Lancashire; Paul Newman, head of communications for Media City; Eddie Hemmings, Sky Sports presenter; Alistair Mann, BBC football commentator; Patrick Barclay, chief football commentator for The Times; David Conn, sports news reporter for The Guardian; Jonathan Legard, BBC sports broadcaster; Sean St Ledger, PNE footballer and many others.
You can’t get a better tutor than Charlie Lambert.
