his programme draws on the wealth of sporting tradition and industry professionals who work in the North West region. Not only is it the home of Premiership football, but it also has a proud history of success in cricket, rugby league and union and many other sports.

Accredited by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council, we deliver this programme with our colleagues in the School of Sport, Tourism and the Outdoors. Students not only learn how to operate as a sports journalist, they also study the structure of sport and its development into a multi-million pound industry.

Students have a thorough grounding of all the basic practi- cal journalism skills in year one. In year two, they move on to specialist sports reporting modules and in their final year, they can specialise in either print or broadcast.

Tutors have worked as sports journalists and they bring with them a wealth of industry contacts and expertise. Graduates are now working for organisations such as the BBC, ESPN and national and regional newspapers. Others are in press offices at Premiership football clubs and some have worked overseas for organisations such as Real Madrid TV.

Students also have an opportunity to study abroad in year two and there is a compulsory industry placement in year three. Entry requirements are BBB or ABB at A2.
