TAVISTOCK OVER FIFTIES FRIENDSHIP GROUP
The Tavistock Over Fifties group meets once a month at the Market Inn, Tavistock, on the second Monday of every month at 7.30pm.
The Tavistock Over Fifties Group is a small group of single people, from all walks of life, cleaners, teachers, doctors, managing directors, and a few retired people, who want to make new friends in Tavistock and the surrounding area. Though not a dating group, Organiser Yvonne Harris says, “we have lost a couple of members who have met new partners at the group.” Yvonne organises quizzes and puzzles for the evening and says, “these are done in teams of four or five people, who do all they can to discourage the other teams from getting the correct answer. These quizzes are not for serious quizzers as there is lots of laughing, bickering and arguing over who is right and it is definitely not the quizmaster!”
As well as the monthly meetings there are other
activities during the month, such as ten pin bowling, parties, shows and evening meals. The Wharf is a popular venue for their tribute acts and skittles at the Tavy Club is always great fun. Walking, followed by Sunday lunch is another popular activity when the weather is favourable and the Sunday carvery at Trethorne has become a firm favourite and the Group aim to visit there every second or third month. Yvonne says, “As the Group is a friendship group we want people to come to the meetings, not just come on the outings.”

Meet and greet can be arranged and Yvonne says, “although our few male members would like to keep us ladies for themselves, some more men (especially if they can answer sports questions!) would be very welcome.
