Drug Testing Index that showed the combined general U.S. workforce urine specimen positivity rate for the first 6 months of 2010 was 4.2% compared to a 6.6% in their hair testing specimens. augmenting their federally mandated urine testing program with hair testing is especially notable, and speaks to the desire for more rigorous testing in an industry in which safety is paramount. As the data provided by firms such as J.B. Hunt has shown, companies identify more drug abusers with hair tests. Hair testing, while relatively new in the trucking industry, isn’t a new concept in corporate America. Dr. Todd Simo joined HireRight in 2009 and currently serves as Director of Medical Services working out of our Charlotte, NC office. Dr. Simo came to HireRight with a decade of experience in the medical consulting arena. Prior to coming to HireRight, he was the Medical Director of an occupational health clinic in Virginia and owned a consulting firm providing medical director service to multiple companies located throughout the country. In that capacity, he established multiple customer specific health and drug screening services. In his current position with HireRight, he oversees the medical department. Dr. Simo completed his medical training at the University of Minnesota and served as a Naval Medical Officer until 1998. He is a board certified Medical Review Officer with vast experience and training in Family, Occupational, and Addiction Medicine. Along with his clinical experience, Dr. Simo was a clinical investigator for three pharmaceutical companies and was on multiple national speaker bureaus.
