While not free for non-members, for a

yearly fee or a one-day pass, the SHRM website offers a wealth of resources that can help you and your staff. Teir “Communities” section offers online


he Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) represents more than 250,000 members in


resources to assist HR personnel in sharing information and networking— a great asset to anyone in the industry. You can find out about professional development activities and local opportunities in your area through the different regions, councils and chapters. SHRM.org also provides many useful


templates and policies that companies without a dedicated human resources staff could profit from. Templates and policies are available for many topics including benefits, compensation, leadership development, etc. Te policies cover many areas including sample general employment policies and specific policies such as those dealing with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Also beneficial, the “Employment


Law” section covers areas of importance for all employers. Again, this area of the website is a great resource for small


companies without a dedicated human resources department. If you have a concern about the legal defensibility of any of your employment policies, this area of the website can assist you in finding the answers. Finally, with regards to drug and alcohol


testing, there are templates and policy samples available under the “Safety and Security” section. Tese items include: • a Drug & Alcohol Policy • a Drug-Free Workplace Program Policy • a Drugs, Alcohol and Contraband Policy • a Post-Accident Drug Testing Policy • a Pre-Employment Drug Testing Policy • a Random Drug Testing Policy • a Use of Drugs and Alcohol Policy While not a replacement for sound
