COLLECTIVE CULTURE

TESTING

Collective bargaining is a process in which workers, through their bargaining committee, deal as a group to determine wages, hours and other conditions of employment, including substance abuse testing. A collective bargaining agreement, also known as a “CBA,” governs a group of employers who ban together for mutual aid when bargaining with labor organizations. Collective bargaining agreements usually run for a definite period—one, two or three years—and all employers belonging to the association are bound by the agreement that was negotiated by the association and the union. Today it is commonplace to find “substance abuse testing” programs approved and part of the CBAs but it hasn’t always been this way.
