PikesPeakSports.us The inaugural Cottonwood Pass Hill Climb Time Trial, July 8th. Starts on Main St. in Buena Vista
and in 30 second intervals, rides west 19 miles and 4,000 vertical feet to the top of Cottonwood Pass. The hill climb time trial format is something we haven`t seen much around Colorado. It will change the tactics for a hill climb considerably as there will be 6 relatively flat miles from BV to the mouth of Cottonwood Canyon that are typically into a headwind. Will riders who are stronger at TT`s have an advantage? Or will the climbers still have enough time to make up a difference? It will be interesting to see. Riders will be allowed to switch bikes if they wish. Just don't forget about your timing chip.
Logistics will work much like Mt Evans, except that the road over Cottonwood will be open to traffic. Buses will shuttle gear-bags to the top so riders can have extra clothing when they get to the top, and riders will be responsible for getting themselves down. There will be a couple of aid stations along the way with water etc, but there will be no official wheel support. No spectator parking is available at the top.
