Hi All! Well!.. Here we are in 2012 ..... Doesn’t seem that long ago, we were celebrating ..”The Millennium”!


Recently I decided to treat my better half to a nice romantic Saturday night out and took her to D´Antonio’s Restaurant near Rojales.


D´Antonio’s is situated between Benimar and Rojales Roundabouts on the main road (directly opposite the B.P. filling station) the venue was formerly known as Dos Hermanos Restaurant prior to Antonio taking over in October 2011.


On entering the establishment, I was very impressed by both the ambience of the venue and the welcome we received from Antonio and his pleasant, friendly staff.


The regular entertainers in this establishment on a Saturday night are Husband and Wife Duo, Duncan and Mary, who are better known as “Insignia”!


Mary is lead vocalist and Duncan plays Keyboard providing backing vocals and harmonies and sometimes taking the lead vocals on some numbers.


This affable couple moved to Spain 11 years ago from Inverness in the Scottish Highlands.


For many years, they had performed all over the Highlands and Islands and held a residency for the Shearings Coach Company in several of their Hotels.


Over the years, they have worked alongside many well known Scottish Artiste’s, such as Jimmy Logan, The Alexander Brothers, Colin Stuart, Grant Frazer, Moira Anderson and Kenneth MacKeller.


Insignia are a very versatile duo.


While the meals were being served, their music was very laid back and being played at a sensible volume, allowing for conversation amongst the diners, without being “intrusive”.


As the evening progressed, the range of music that Duncan and Mary performed literally spanned the decades, they played classic numbers from the late 1950´s to present day, taking in country, country & western, ballads, commercial pop songs, rock, rock n’ roll, country rock and even a bit of strict tempo (for the one’s that like to dance.... there is an area for dancing!).


We were treated to songs from The Searchers, Connie Francis, The Drifters, The Beatles, Shirley Bassey, Dusty Springfield, Buddy Holly, Anne Murray, Adele, Bobby Darin, Bobby Vee, Stealers Wheel, Chuck Berry, Dire Straits, Skeeter Davis, The Pointer Sisters, Mary Wells, Showaddywaddy, Alexandre Burke, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, Billie Jo Spiers, Ricky Nelson, and many, many more.... far too numerous to mention!


All in all, we had a most enjoyable evening! Judging by the reaction from other clients in the restaurant.... we weren’t alone. If you haven’t already heard Insignia... I thoroughly recommend you do!


Apart from playing at many local private functions, they are resident every Saturday night at D´Antonio’s... playing “live music” from 8.00pm - 11.00pm.
