These are just examples of the variety of tasks our volunteer lifeboat men have been called to during 2011 and illuminate the real value of the RNLI on the Dart.

This year the RNLI will re-equip all their crewmen with new lifejackets. They will replace our old jackets which were designed 20 years ago. The new jackets have been designed jointly by the RNLI and Crewsaver to meet the charity’s current search and rescue re- quirements. We shall be using the RNLI annual SOS activities at the end of January to produce the funds to pay for these.

The crew have great fun contributing to the fundraising efforts. They entered canoe races at Bow creek in May and rowed a vintage RNLI pulling lifeboat in the Great River Race on the Thames in September. Our charity only exists with the generous support of our community and RNLI Members. Many of you have responded to the varied events organised by the local Fundraising Branch. With such solid support we look forward to 2012 with confidence.

Throughout the year our Sea Safety officer, John Yunnie, has promoted safety on the water and again this spring we will have our annual Lifejacket clinic at the lifeboat station. Please do visit our website www.dartlifeboat.org.uk Which has details of all our activities. Friends of the Dart lifeboat receive our newsletter, Dart D’Tales, and are kept up to date with our activities. If you buy a souvenir or enjoy a cup of tea at one of our functions you will help to keep us afloat in what are proving to be stringent economic times.
