South Devon College at Noss Marina

The past year has seen more developments for the South Devon College Marine Academy, based here at Noss Marina.

The College has added to its fleet of yachts (which include 38ft Sigma racing yacht ‘Aspiration’ - once raced by the Duke of Edinburgh and this year entered in the Sigma 38 nationals in Portland – and Endeavour of Dart, a Beneteau Oceanis 38). The Col- lege were presented with a 22 ft sailing yacht by Baltic Wharf Ltd. in Totnes through St Peter’s Quay-based yacht brokers Boatshed Dartmouth.

The unnamed Jaguar 22, four berth, lifting keel cruiser, designed by Frank V But- ler will now be cleaned, overhauled, its keel lifting mechanism winch restored and refurbished by Marine Engineering Cadets and used by Foundation Degree Yacht Operations students to build handling skills on a keel boat. They will be able to sail it as skippers in charge and give sailing experience to their fellow Marine Engineering students who have helped restore the yacht.
