5 NEW FACES:Who’s new and who’s moving on Patrick on the right track
1. Network Rail has appointed a new route managing director, Patrick Hallgate, to lead its devolved business unit on the Western route.
Patrick brings 12 years’ railway experience including steering major national signalling and electrification programmes across Britain. He will be responsible for the development and operation of nearly 1,000 miles of railway in Great Western, which covers London Paddington, Thames Valley and the entire South West of England. This move forms part of the company’s drive to increase its responsiveness to customers at a local level by devolving more power,
responsibility and accountability away from the centre and into new business units.
Louise on the Grapevine
2. Louise Summerfield has joined local mobile specialist Grapevine as a Business Sales Manager.
Louise brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent 11 years in the mobile industry at Telefonica O2. Her arrival highlights a marked shift at the Bath-based business as it has successfully transferred over
to dedicated ‘sales’ and ‘support’ functions in recent months. Sales Director James Spinks said: “We are delighted to welcome someone of Louise’s calibre into the team. We are enjoying some great successes at the moment and am sure that Louise will help to drive new business sales even more.”
Duo boost offering at Grayling
3. Leading public relations consultancy, Grayling, has strengthened its Bristol office with the appointment of experienced consultant Michelle Sweeney (pictured right) and graduate Megan Dacey (left). A graduate of Limerick University, Michelle spent six years with Carr Communications in Dublin before making the move to Bristol to join Grayling. She will be responsible for managing a range of clients including Cabot Circus, Construction Skills, National Construction College, Offshore Marine Management and Frazer-Nash Consultancy. Megan is a graduate of Swansea University, with a degree in Public and Media Relations. She joins the Queen Square-based team as a client executive and will provide PR support to both consumer and
business-to-business.
Caroline Searle, Director of Grayling in the South, South West and Wales, said: “It’s fantastic to welcome these bright young individuals to our team. Both have proved their passion and extensive knowledge of PR and excellent communicative and writing skills. They will no doubt be great assets to our already thriving team in Bristol.”
Accountancy firm adds to staff
4. Mazars, the international accountancy and advisory firm, is making a significant investment in its services to South West businesses with the appointment of Adrian Godfrey as corporate finance partner and Amy Goold as corporate tax director. The appointments will see the firm extend the range of services it offers from its Bristol office. Adrian, who previously led the corporate finance practice at Haines Watts in Wales and the South West, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience earned over more than 30 years of working with successful businesses in the region. Amy joins Mazars from Target Chartered Accountants, with a background primarily in corporate tax, advising owner-managed
businesses on a wide range of tax planning opportunities.
Michael Stewart, Bristol Senior Partner, says: “We are extremely pleased to welcome Adrian and Amy to Mazars. Their experience speaks for itself and they will be great assets to the firm.”
Architects at the double
5. Two young architects at the same Bristol practice have completed their training and professional examinations within weeks of each other, after seven years’ intensive study and work experience. Holly Gwazdacz and Tom Freeman have both become chartered architects at GSS Architecture, who have offices at Ham Green in Bristol.
Holly has worked for GSS for the last six years, having completed her ‘year out’ placement with the practice while at university. She has been responsible for concept and detailed design on various projects as well as running jobs and acting as contract administrator. Tom has been working for GSS for three years. He completed his studies at Cardiff University, and following this he has continued to work on a variety of housing, education and local community projects.
