ath law firm Stone King has set up a dedicated traffic team to defend local motorists and deal with an increase in drivers challenging prosecution.

The new team is made up of five experienced solicitors headed by traffic law expert Emma Haley. Working alongside her is Andrew Banks, who specialises in transport law, and fellow team member Jonathan Lewis.

Andrew and Jonathan are both higher court advocates, meaning they can conduct cases in the crown court as well as magistrates’ court. Other members of the team include Celia Strathdee, who has 27 years’ legal experience, and Richard Kirby, a former court legal adviser.

number of people facing – and challenging – prosecution. We expect that this will rise still further if government plans for on-the-spot fines for careless driving are introduced. “We have set up our own dedicated traffic law team in order to deal with this increase and ensure we continue to provide a first-class legal service to local motorists.” Peter Woodhouse, who heads the firm’s Transport Team with a focus on commercial operators, added: “We have acted for commercial operators for many years and the growth of this team gives us unrivalled expertise that we can use for the benefit of road users in this area.”

Hotel fights to beat poverty

Bath-based Bailbrook House Hotel is celebrating after winning a Business against Poverty Entrepreneur Award.

The accolade was awarded at a special Black & White ball to raise funds for children and families living in extreme poverty in Romania, Haiti and Nepal. The evening, which featured live musical entertainment, a raffle and auction, and incorporated the announcement of business competition, The Entrepreneur, raised almost £20,000. Bailbrook House Hotel itself ran a series of events last summer, raising nearly £3,500 and earning them top prize. Business against Poverty Director, Karen Ramirez, said: “Bailbrook have been strong champions of our cause and winning really brings them the recognition they deserve.” Tracy Tennant, general manager at Bailbrook House Hotel, added: “Involvement with an organisation that pulls together corporate social responsibility alongside business principles has really benefitted us as a staff team and raising our profile as an events venue. We were delighted to participate in the competition and winning really is the icing on the cake!”
