GETTING AROUND With numerous methods of

transportation available to residents and visitors alike, Amsterdam is certainly a transport-friendly city. As in many other European cities, driving a car into and around Amsterdam is discouraged. Parking fees are expensive, roadways are narrow, and many are either one-way, or closed to cars. Public transportation, on the other hand, is reliable and convenient. There are metros, buses and trams available to help you get around the capital. Trains are typically used for longer trips, from city to city or to travel across Amsterdam. If travel over the water floats your boat, you may opt for the water taxis, canal bus, pedal boats, or one of three free ferries for pedestrians and cyclists. Speaking of cyclists, you might want to truly envelope yourself in the Dutch culture and do as the locals do; ride a bike! With over 400km of bike paths

available and several locations to rent a bike, cycling is an easy, inexpensive, and efficient way to travel – just be sure to securely lock your bike when not in use.

If you plan to use public transportation during your visit, a worthwhile purchase is the I Amsterdam City Card. Available for purchase for one, two, or three days, the pass gives you free unlimited public transport, a free canal cruise, free entrance to many of the city’s top museums and attractions, and other special discounts offered at various establishments. For 39-59 EUR, the I Amsterdam City Card helps to make your trip worry-free and affordable. www.iamsterdam.com/en/visiting/ iamsterdamcard

For a truly unique perspective, a canal cruise is a must for travellers to Amsterdam, particularly first-time visitors. With over 100km of canals to explore, one can choose from various cruise options ranging from private dinner cruises and a 100 Highlights cruise, to those that offer wine and cheese or all-you-can-eat pancakes. For a more informal cruise, many boats
