The airport was bursting at the seams with airlines, travel agents, resorts, music and dancers, and over 1700 guests at the third annual Hot Sun event, Saturday October 29.
This event is organized to promote the YLW winter flight schedule to sunny destinations, provide travel information and advice to travellers, and to showcase the airport’s airline and other travel partners. In addition to the information and entertainment, there were seven vacation giveaways. The trips were provided by WestJet/WestJet Vacations, Transat Holidays, Alaska Airlines, Air Canada Vacations, and Occidental Hotel & Resorts. People had an opportunity to win one of the trips up for grabs either through one of the pre-promotion contests with media partners Q103.1 and Castanet, or by a minimum $5 donation for a draw entry. All money collected was donated to ShelterBox Canada who had a ShelterBox set up on site at the event. YLW is very pleased to announce $6,345 was collected at the event for ShelterBox Canada (well exceeding YLW’s $3000 event goal); in addition $2000 was donated to ShelterBox Canada on-line by those who attended the event and wanted to make another contribution to the organization. With the combined total of $8,345 ShelterBox Canada was able to purchase eight boxes on behalf of YLW to help families in need who have lost their home due to disaster. The tracking numbers for the boxes YLW purchased from this event are listed below. Once the boxes have been deployed to help a family, you and YLW will be able to see when and where in the world they have been sent.

Fly to Europe – see how easy it can be! We may not have non-stop flights to London, Amsterdam, Paris or Frankfurt in place yet, but YLW along with our airline partners want to show how easy it is to fly from YLW to Europe. Rumour is there may be a chance to win a European vacation at the event.
YLW Spring to Europe, a free public information event, will be held in the airport terminal on Saturday, March 3 from 12- 4 pm. Parking is free when you park in the long-term lot and bring in your parking stub to be validated. Airlines, tour groups and travel agents will have booths set up and information sessions will be offered. Learn about travel options to the UK, Amsterdam, France, Italy, Germany and more.
