KELOWNA: STILL A GREAT PLACE TO CALL HOME
It’s not news that the current sales figures in the Central Okanagan are down from years past, but we need to remember those figures were a bit of a bubble. Compared to August 2005, year to date sales of single family residential homes were down 30% at the end of August 2011, but similar to figures in the late 90’s, a time of relative market normality. Despite all of the economic uncertainty and global unrest, sales figures from the Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board have performed well in the Central Okanagan as the market here continues to stabilize. Prices have not fallen off the map as some headlines would lend you to believe (let’s note the median house price in Kelowna was $175,250 in 2001), nor have they shot upwards at an alarming rate.
