Christmas Editorial
The FWC trade association is independently managed by members and we are also registered with the Certification Officer. Customarily FWC has the following Executives: Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Treasurer. These, together with seven other officers, form the management committee which is the governing body of the federation. Whilst the elected Treasurer holds office for the pleasure of the Federation, the Chairman and Vice-Chairman are elected every two years,
alternating at Annual General Meetings. Both officers are eligible for re-election at the end of their retiring year. Seven other officers are also elected at AGM’s, each holding office for a period of two years, and all of which are equally eligible for re-election.
We are seeking new committee members for 2012… Why not consider putting your name forward for a position on the executive management committee. Vacancies are available for those members who can share industry expertise to help fellow window cleaners, and attend periodical management meetings to discuss industry and other related issues to help improve the industry, and maintain our independent standing as a Trade Association.
I bet you are thinking “What can I do to help other window cleaners within the federation…..” Well, all you really need is a passion for the industry and a drive to meet the ongoing challenges required to develop the professionalism of our industry.
Who am I and why did I join the federation? Bryan Dolby, a commercial window cleaning contractor in Grimsby. “I got involved with the Grimsby branch of the National Federation of Master Window & General Cleaners (NFMW&GC) when I first started window cleaning in 1983. I joined the Federation in January 1985, and was eventually nominated for the main Executive Committee in 1989. I was subsequently, voted on as Chairman in 1997 which I retained until 2010”.
During this time Bryan has enthusiastically represented the FWC in so many ways, and well above expectations. He has completed many
Andrew Lee - J.A. Lee Window & General Cleaning in Cumbria. Elected onto the executive committee in 1993, Vice-Chairman in 1994 + Health & Safety Officer to liaise with the HSE on trade matters. Andrew, together with Bryan Dolby assisted in producing the FWC training courses and represented the FWC at Windex and FWC Trade Shows. Andrew was co-opted Chairman in April 2011 as a consequence of Bryan’s resignation from this position.
Matthew Johnson - Cam Cleaning Services Ltd, London. Elected onto the FWC committee in 2009, Matthew is also Chairman for the Commercial based sub-committee recently formulated to address specific needs of commercial window cleaning companies. He has represented the FWC at various trade meetings and events .
challenging tasks on behalf of the FWC and its membership….Bryan is indeed a difficult act to follow.
Now twenty years down the line, Bryan says ‘ I felt it was the time for me to retire from what I see as a great working team, to make way for other members, and of course, my new passion of providing training for the FWC! ’ ‘Looking back to when I first started on the committee, there has been so many changes in the industry, including the development of some great projects, many lively meeting discussions, Federation trade shows, the 2005 Work at Height directive, the introduction of water fed pole systems, window cleaning training course development, a new safety DVD and even the association’s name change! all of which I can honestly say, I have thoroughly enjoyed”
To be on the council you will need to attend our Head Office in Stockport, four times a year for management meetings where we address key issues for window cleaners and the industry. Each person on the council brings in different key qualities, and if you are still not sure about becoming a committee member and would like to discuss this further then why not give Bryan a call on 0775 113 1680’
On behalf of all the members and staff of the FWC, we would like to say a big ‘Thank you’ to Bryan for his magnificent efforts and leadership over the years.
