José learned his craft while growing up in Cuba and he then passed it on to his son, Joseph. Learning from his father when he was just five years old, the same meticulous attention to detail that José had learned from his uncle was passed on to Joseph in those informative years. Joseph carries on the family tradition, with the same passion
and devotion of his father in ensuring that each product bears the high-quality and uniqueness that has become the Der-Dau trade- mark and which is visible in every pair of custom-fit, handmade Der-Dau boots and shoes worn worldwide today. “I thank God everyday that my father got me into this field,”
said Joseph who took Der-Dau beyond boots and shoes when he launched the company’s successful line of accessories that in- cludes handbags, belts and ipod covers. “It gives me great plea- sure to design something that people appreciate. Sometimes peo- ple come up to me wearing boots that they bought from my dad 25 years ago and that gives me a great feeling. It makes me feel special to be able to do this and have customers out there who consider themselves part of the Der-Dau family.” Among those who proud to wear Der-Dau boots are interna-
tional show jumping riders Ian Millar, Pablo Barrios and Schuyler Riley, as well as style icons Janet Jackson and Madonna, both of whom have been seen in the custom Der-Dau footwear.
