years. In 1979, this “A” rated AHSA show hosted one of the first Grand Prix jumping events on the West Coast. In 2012, with returning manager Robin Serfass, the show will again host the Equine Insurance/San Fernando Hunter Jumper Challenge Medal Finals, and offer the second annual Flintridge Riding Club Medal Finals and the second annual Hunter Derby. Today, as FRC prepares to celebrate its 90th year, the old tradi-

tions of excellence are still upheld as it responds to the chang- ing horse world. To facilitate the new goals and objectives, the Club has welcomed Lydia Doherty as its Executive Director. Improvements slated for 2012 include the completion of “Pos- A-Trac” footing in all riding arenas, an updated sound system, new awnings for the Grandstand, attractive facings for the horse stalls in the main barns, pavers in the barn areas, and a much-an- ticipated Eurociser. The successful introductory riding program, Flintridge Riding Academy Program (FRAP), will be expanded. To celebrate its 90th Anniversary, FRC is very excited to an-

nounce it will be offering a 2012 Promotional Membership. The Club invites the horse community to log on to its website to get more detailed information on special 90th Anniversary celebra-

tions that will be held in conjunction with its horse shows this year. A favorite spot to read or enjoy quiet time is FRC’s Spanish Colonial Clubhouse, famous for its oak-shaded patio for lunches in the summer, and its cozy living room with roaring fireplace in the winter. Annual club-wide social gatherings revolve around the holidays, as well as Kentucky Derby Day. Informal barbecues are offered year-round on Thursday or Friday evenings. In the summers, the barbeques follow special trainer les- sons. Most importantly, in spite of all the changes in the past

ninety years, FRC members and the horses they love still enjoy one of the most breathtaking settings imaginable in all of Southern California. What an illustrious past the Club has had, and what a bright future it has in store. Let us all raise a toast to the 90th Anniversary of the Flintridge Riding Club.
