a West Coast team to represent the United States in the Nation’s Cup at Spruce Meadows in Canada, the very first such competi- tion to be held in western North America. Hap Hansen, Susan Hutchison and Anne Kursinski rode on a Team that competed successfully against teams from Europe, Canada, Mexico and Japan. Additional Flintridge riders who rode Internationally on the USET Teams include: Mary Mairs Chapot, Hap Hansen, Su- san Hutchinson, Ken Nordstrom, Mason Phelps, Robert Rid- land and Francie Steinwedell. At the Pan American games in 1983, Anne Kursinski won Individual and Team Gold Medals aboard Livius, a horse owned
by Flintridge Associates. The pair was an alternate for the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles and Anne later rode a horse named Starman on the U.S. Jumping Team that won the Silver Medal in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and went on to compete in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona finishing team fifth, and then to Team Silver at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Starman was owned by Flintridge member Frances Steinwedell. Anne was voted 1988 AHSA Horsewoman of the year and
honored with the 1991 Female Equestrian Athlete of the Year by the United States Olympic Committee. Hap Hansen was Johnny Walker/American Grand Prix Association (AGA) Rider of the Year in 1990 and (AHSA) American Horse Show Association’s Hertz Rider of the Year in 1994. Susan Hutchison has won over 60 Grand Prix show jumping competitions since 1988. In addition to the accomplished riders previously mentioned,
Flintridge has produced quite an impressive roster of alumni who are now recognized professionals in the horse community. Liz Denny, Diane Dixon, Leslie Figge, Kathy Hobstetter, Nancy Frost, Rob Gage, Kathryn (K.T.) Ginzton, Hap Hansen, Mike Hebert, Andy Scott Klug, Lisa Kursinski, Stacy Lambakis, Kirsi Sutherland Nevanlainen, Kenny Nordstrom, Edgar Pagan, Ra- chel Saavedra, John Sadler, Pasty Bell Severinsen and Heidi Mis- rahy (training exclusively at Flintridge) are among the list. Throughout the years, Flintridge has also been an active partic-
ipant in the horse show community, holding four major shows every year. The Children’s Horse Show, celebrating its 91st year in 2012, began as an all Children’s and Junior’s event, but this year will expand its riding opportunities under new manager Dale Harvey.
