Give us the 30 second elevators pitch for Please Cycle PleaseCycle helps organisations understand, encourage and reward employee cycling – a proven way of saving carbon, increasing productivity and lowering absenteeism. Our Cycle Hub® system is an online portal containing educational content, safe route planners, weather updates and a company-wide leaderboard. This allows staff to see how much they’re cycling, the resultant carbon saved and earn rewards for their mileage – like an “Air Miles” for bikes. It’s an employee-engagement, benefit and CSR tool rolled into one, helping organisations to inspire sustainable behaviour and capture the ROI it brings. PleaseCycle’s value proposition could be viewed as the “gamification” of sustainable transport.
What has been the biggest obstacle you have faced in starting up your business? Eric Ries - author of The Lean Startup - talks about a new venture’s need to “pivot” in order to find a value proposition which generates interest within their chosen industry. My business partner and I were certain that there was a gap in the market for a turnkey corporate cycling brand, however it took several “pivots” in order to truly unearth our place in the market.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received so far?
I can’t remember who said it, but: “if you’re 100% happy with the product when it launches, you’ve waited too long.” Get something out there to test the waters and see how consumers / clients react. Call it “beta” if need be. I guarantee you’ll learn more in the two weeks that follow than in the previous two months you spent planning.

The name gives a lot away but give us a quick idea of what
Comparetheuni.com is all about.
Comparetheuni.com is a comparison website aimed at prospective university students. As tuition fees have increased, it is important that prospective students can compare universities effectively. Comparetheuni makes comparing universities easier and less time-consuming with the integration of league tables, a unique head to head system, as well as a-z course lists for every university in the UK! Whilst our website is also free to use! Our head to
head system allows a prospective student to compare universities side by side for tuition fees, average rent, rankings, employment rates and even male-female ratios! Whilst we have also licensed The Times and Guardian league tables! Lastly, we have a forum helping to inform students about the social side of each university town.
What’s been your biggest achievement to date?
Our biggest achievement so far was winning a Future 100 award during Global Entrepreneurship Week. This award recognises the top 100 young entrepreneurs in the UK and was sponsored by Ernst and Young. Winning this award so early on in our entrepreneurial journey was not only an achievement, but motivation to strive for more!
What do you enjoy most about being an entrepreneur?
The best thing about being an entrepreneur is that business is organic! Everyday there are new developments, changes and decisions to be made and as an entrepreneur you have control as to which direction to take.
