Pay Stations Help Increase Parking Revenue More Than 60%


Digital Payment Technologies (DPT) announced last month


that its deployment of 100 Luke multispace parking pay stations in Asbury Park, NJ, has delivered more than a 60% increase in parking revenue for the city. Asbury Park, on the Jersey shore, has high seasonal fluctua-


tions and a prominent tourism industry, both of which drive a large portion of the city’s economy. DPT’s flexible Enterprise Management System also has enabled the city to utilize the pay stations tomanage and distribute beach passes. Because the city’s single-head parking meters proved diffi-


cult for collection and enforcement – and previous multispace pay stations required frequent and labor-intensive service and maintenance – significant potential revenue was being left on the table. In early 2011, after much research, the city made the switch


to DPT’s Luke pay stations, which were installed and supported by Integrated Technical Systems. “Our goals were to manage parking, create customer


turnover and raise alternative revenue,” saidMayor Ed Johnson. “DPT’s machines resemble an ATMand are incredibly intu-


itive,” added City Engineer Brian Grant. “Moreover, the machines are flexible and reliable…and consumers have been very satisfied.”

City officials estimate that 90% of people parking on the


waterfront are going to the beach. So in addition to paying for parking on the Luke pay stations, beachgoers can purchase beach passes at the same time, using pay-and-display mode. Officials also have chosen to install additional Luke pay stations through- out other areas of the city, including the Central Business District, Main Street, and are considering expanding to parking garages.
