weeks, subject to customs formalities at destination. Make sure you choose a specialist International Mover who ships to your destination on a regular basis.

What will help me keep my move costs down and do I need to organise insurance?

Want to know the process of moving all of your worldly possessions to another country? Noel Glavin From Anglo Pacific explains.

How far in advance should I organise the shipping of my possessions?

Start thinking about the removal three to four months prior to departure. We would suggest that customers approach a maximum of three independent companies to arrange a free home consultation, having already sought some initial literature. Careful planning, proactive communication, regular updates and sharing our expert knowledge helps alleviate the stress.

How long will it take for my possessions to arrive?

Depending on your destination and chosen service it can take between 6 to 12 weeks. An exclusive container service (volume of an average 3 bedroom property) will take from 6 to 8 weeks whereas a part shared load (groupage service) can take typically from 8 to 12

You will be paying for the volume of the goods you ship and not the weight. You can move everything or just selected items with the cost reflective of the overall volume you move. The cost to move the contents of an average 3 bedroom property compared to replacing everything makes the options of shipping a very economical consideration. You might find that you don’t have the same purchasing power or selection at destination. It is advisable to protect your belongings for a sum equivalent to replacement value and your moving company will be able to provide specialist Marine Transit Insurance.

Pensions

Richard Curran from Pension Transfers explains the importance of transferring any pensions you may have. Pension Transfers are Independent Financial Advisers (IFA) with regulated offices in UK, Australia and New Zealand; ensuring clients receive best advice when emigrating.

Why should I transfer my pension?

By transferring your UK pension you could potentially save tax and will avoid on-going currency risks. You will also have “currency control”, deciding when to switch your funds to the new currency. You could access benefits before you retire under the new tax system. You could improve death benefits. However, for some people, leaving their pension schemes in the UK is a better thing to do, so seeking advice is highly recommended.

When is the best time to look into transferring my pension?

We would recommend that you start investigating your options early (or at least 6 months before you are leaving). There may be opportunities available to you now that may be closed to you later on. Pension schemes can take between 3-6 months to supply advisers with the information needed to provide effective advice. If you leave it too late you may be exposing yourself to tax or penalties in your new country.

How much will it cost me to have my pensions transferred?

We initially provide a FREE no-obligation report that investigates if you would benefit from transferring your pension with you. It will give you all the information you would need to make an informed decision on whether you would like to transfer your pension. Please note, transferring pensions is not for everyone. Fees will be confirmed within the FREE report before any transfer is processed.
