New Firm Fills Niche to Book Performing Songwriters

The Songwriter Agency, a new company booking hit songwrit-

ers into a variety of mainstream venues - festivals, performing arts centers, theaters, casinos and fairs - worldwide, recently opened its doors. Conceived and created by music industry veterans Paul Compton and Randy Harrell, the Nashville-based agency has established a roster of over 30 of country, pop and rock music's most prolific songwriters. "We created The Songwriter Agency as an outlet for some of

the most talented and gifted composers and creators of award- winning music to get out and perform their songs," said Compton, President/co-founder of the company. "Music fans know the songs, now they'll get a chance to listen to the creators of songs that are literally woven in the fabric of our lives." While a majority of the performers will be booked as solo art-

ists, some dates will include multiple songwriters billed as a pack- age, acoustically or with a band. Audiences will delight in hearing fascinating stories behind the songs and enjoy the writers per- forming those hits exactly as they were originally written. "I think The Songwriter Agency concept is forward thinking and

very innovative," said Roger Murrah, Sr. Vice President, Bug Mu- sic, Inc., Chairman of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Foundation and writer of such smash hits as Al Jarreau's "We're In This Love Together," Alan Jackson's "Don't Rock The Jukebox" and several hits for Alabama. "I'm surprised that booking perform- ing songwriters hasn't been approached so professionally sooner!" For the agency roster, tour dates, writer biographies or more

mal trainers when we have the opportunity. That is why the article I have submitted to the FL Federation of fairs is one about a fam- ily that is dedicated to the preservation of bears and how their very existence is in danger. It is the goal and intent of the Welde family to bring to the pub-

lic’s attention vital information regarding this threatened and en- dangered species. Most people don’t know that in Florida, com- mercial and residential development destroys and fragments the habitat for threatened black bears. This leaves them less room to roam and makes it more difficult to find food and mates. Highway projects are also a major problem. In an average year, more than 130 bears are killed on Florida state roads and highways, making collisions with vehicles their number one cause of death. The Welde Bears range in size from 200 to 1200 lbs. These

incredibly intelligent animals spend a good part of their year visit- ing fairs, festivals and parks raising the awareness of this loss of habitat and the dangers of losing our beautiful endangered spe- cies. Johnny, Monica and their three children, Jennie, John Jr and even Angelica have spent their lives dedicated to educating the public about these issues. It is now a scientific fact that if we continue to destroy our wildlife our own very existence is in jeop- ardy. We appreciate organizations like the FL Federation of Fairs who are so helpful in promoting these same issues of preserva- tion and conservation.
