ZONE II AND IAFE UPDATES……………………...………………..…………………. 2011 IAFE

ZONE II NEWS……………… Becky Brashear, CFE, Zone II Director

Greetings to members of the Florida Federation of Fairs and Livestock Shows! CONGRATULATIONS, Florida Federation of Fairs! What an

awesome convention your association put together in May in St. Augustine, and Zone II can’t thank you enough for includ- ing our meeting with yours! Our zone was so excited to be a part of this pilot program of hooking on a zone meeting to a statewide conference…and we look forward to joining forces with you again in 2012! FFF’s Executive Director Lisa Hinton and Convention Pro-

gram Chair Happy Norris did a phenomenal job in pulling to- gether many timely topics related to our industry for the confer- ence. Jeanne Keaton has done an outstanding job in leading your association to many accomplishments this past year. It was great having Jim Tucker, IAFE CEO and President, as well as Jim Sinclair, IAFE Board Chair attend and participate in our joint meetings. To all of the convention presenters, moderators and guest

speakers, many thanks for your involvement and participation in the convention. Your presentations were enlightening, edu- cational … and sometimes, entertaining! Congratulations are in order to Vicki Chorus from the

South Florida Fair for receiving your association’s top honor by being inducted into the Federation’s Hall of Fame. Zone II is proud of you, Vicki! To Leah Norris and her efforts with the Federation’s Florida

Youth Involved (FYI), encouraging youth and young adults to become involved with Fairs! This is a great initiative on the Federation’s part, and I hope other statewide associations will look to do the same. Like our state organizations, membership is also so very

important to our Zone II and the IAFE. Let’s all please work together to help our Zone Membership Chair Nancy Smith, CFE, in taking the lead in securing new members in the com- ing months. Nancy can be reached at nancys@SCstatefair.org for more details. More to come…! We’re working really hard at keeping Zone II’s Facebook

Page updated with current information. Make sure you be- come a fan of the page! Randi Nikolas from the State Fair of West Virginia is serving as the page administrator. Contact Randi at events@statefairofwv.com for more information! More to come...!

CONGRATULATIONS!

CONVENTION November 28— December 1

Should you attend?

Is there a value

for small Fairs? Submitted by Doris Graska

The answer is YES! and YES! This convention is of benefit to

all size Fairs and all involved in producing an annual Fair. Not only on a personal and educational level, but also on a

networking level. Meeting new people is always beneficial and there is a certain

camaraderie with the attendees from our own State of Florida. The resources at the Educational Center are fascinating. Get-

ting to see contest entries from all over the country will give you ideas for your own future projects. You’re even allowed to make copies! Anyone preparing for their CFE will benefit from attending,

conducting a workshop, and participating. The Trade Show is a wonder to behold! It takes more than

one visit to cover it. Think about our Trade Show x 4! Again, a place to catch up with old friends and make new ones. Plus….there is always a few short minutes to try your luck.

Follow some of those “Big” boys from Florida, they’ll show you the ropes.
