FLORIDA FAIR NEWS CONTINUED……………………...…………………………….. “Meet Me At The Fair”
Citrus County Fair News Hall Porter, Manager
The 2011 Citrus County Fair
was a success thanks to all the hard work of our Staff, Directors, Volunteers and the tremendous support of our Community.
The week started with bad weather, rain and wind. We
only had 3 of our 6 days with good weather. The sunshine came at the end of the week and so did our patrons. Friday of our Fair was a record crowd. We are very thankful for the support of everyone. The livestock shows and sales did very well. The exhibits
and displays in the buildings were great. The history dis- play coordinated by Director Doris Graska was outstanding. Director Bill Hoppert built a diorama of our fairgrounds that added to the history exhibit. It brought back many fond memories for the folks in our county. The entertainment was awesome again this year. It in-
cluded: Agricadabra, The Recycle Cycle & High Pock- ets Parade, Olde Time Music, Lucky Star Strolling Pony, the Eudora Petting Zoo & a host of talented local entertainment. It was a pleasure to work with these folks and our patrons let us know that they enjoyed the shows. Belle City Amusements as always brought a first class midway. The business community who came to the livestock sales
deserve a special thank you for helping all the youth com- plete their projects on a positive note. We had 17 directors, 3 staff members and 5 spouses at-
tend the recent convention. It was an educational and en- joyable experience for all. We thank all those responsible. We are getting ready for our 2012 Truck & Tractor Pull to
be held in January. Look for details in the October newslet- ter.
The 67th Annual Osceola County Fair The 67th Annual Osceola County Fair was held February
cased on February 15th, which was their first show after appearing at the Grammy’s. Local favorite Kenyon Lock- rey opened the show. Helicopter flights were also avail- able this year for the first time for Fair guests wanting an aerial view of the Fair and an exciting ride in the sky! Our 2011 “Meet Me at the Fair” theme was the result of
11-20, 2011, sponsored by Southern Ford Dealers. We had beautiful weather throughout the entire 10 days of the Fair. Whether the turning of the economy or people wanting to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather, we experienced a record breaking year with attendance up by 19.7% and a livestock sales increase by 10.28%, compared to 2010. We were very pleased when we were short by just a few peo- ple of reaching our goal of 100,000 fairgoers! New to the Fair this year, The Band Perry, was show-
brainstorming conversations with our General Manager, Dawn Rowe and our advertising liaison. Many years ago Dawn and her husband, Rex, met at the Osceola County Fair while Rex served as a volunteer and Dawn was at- tending the Fair. What an exciting journey unfolded as they are both now very involved with the Fair. It makes you won- der how many other couples met their spouse at a Fair. What a great place to meet and spend your time together! “Meet us at the Fair” next year, February 10-19, 2012,
and enjoy spending time together … who knows you may even meet your future spouse! We look forward to seeing you at the Osceola County Fair!
