NICA NEWS UPDATE………...……..by Frank Parnell, Interim Executive Director, NICA Well it’s November, and my tenure as NICA’s President

is quickly coming to an end. I have had a wonderful time, and I cannot thank everyone enough for affording me the opportu- nity to serve and then having the patience to put up with me while I did. Exciting things are happening in NICA. As many of you know, we are in the process of hiring a new Executive Director to replace me. That sounds a little confusing doesn’t it? The Board of Directors has decided to return to the original nomenclature, so the President returns to Executive Director and the Chairman of the Board becomes the President. I know you will all sleep better knowing that. Well, anyway it looks like November or early December will wind it up for me. I only have one thing to say about that, HOORAY! Seriously, al- though I feel honored to have been asked to serve, I am look- ing forward to working on my golf game, and believe me it needs a lot of work. I am excited about our new leader al- though at this time we don’t know who it will be, however judging by the quantity and quality of the resumes pouring in I have no doubt we will select a dynamic person to lead us for- ward. Also at this time we are in the process of electing five new Directors who will take office in 2012. We look forward to working with the newly elected Directors and we feel confident

they will provide excellent leadership as we move NICA for- ward. Now for the fun stuff; although we have had a golf tourna-

ment for many years, we have changed the name of it to the O’Brien Open in honor of one of our founding fathers, Gene O’Brien. We invite you to join us at beautiful River Hills Golf and Country Club in Valrico, Florida on February 8th for our inaugural O’Brien Open. We are honored to have Schantz Manufacturing as the Title Sponsor and we are expecting our best tournament ever. We invite all of you to come and join us. Registration is at 11a.m., followed by a sumptuous lunch and a 12:30p.m. shotgun start. Oh, did I mention an opportunity to qualify for a $1,000,000.00 hole-in-one shot? Yes, you read it right, one million dollars. Contact the NICA office for details. Who knows, maybe your fortune will change in February. In closing, I would like to thank the Florida Federation of

Fairs for their support of NICA. I believe mutual support from sister organizations help to ensure future success for both associations. Thank you for all you have done, continue to do, and please know that NICA, stands ready to reciprocate in any way we can. We believe in our motto “Together We Can.”

Frank Parnell, NICA President

SPOTLIGHT ON OUR ASSOCIATES………………………..………………………….... Smiles Spread by Casual Contact Ozseeker the Clown spreads smiles and

Federation

creates memories at Fairs, large and small. Balloons are like magnets and instantly draw a crowd. Award-winning twister, Karen Burrell, a.k.a. Ozseeker, is even popular with teenag- ers. Impressed by the creativity, many fair- goers offer tips, but Ozseeker say's, "No, thank you. Put that in your piggy-bank." But, she is always willing to take pictures with fair- goers.

Part of the 6-hour performance day is devoted to Ozseeker's Clown

Magic Show. Many 4-H'ers and concession kids attend several of Ozseeker's shows during the run of the Fair, as no two shows are identi- cal. Everyone participates in each program and some are made stars on stage. The show fits into Ozseeker's balloon basket, and sets up, almost instantly, in any shaded area. Ozseeker includes body art, at some Fairs, for no additional

charge. The face painting comes off with soap and water, or sweat and friction. The glitter tattoos last 3 - 7 days, even through bathing. Since 2006, Ozseeker has returned, year after year to the Columbia County Fair in WI, where she is booked through 2015. County fairs in WY, MN, GA, and WI (where she lives) have filled her calendar faster and faster each year. 2011 was her 2nd year at the Vermont State Fair. Ozseeker is thrilled to be confirmed as a 2012 entertainer at the Osce-

ola County Fair in FL, through Oler Productions. What a wonderful place for a Wisconsin resident to spend time in February. Karen Burrell - Family Entertainer will have a Trade Show booth at

the 2012 Florida Federation of Fairs Convention. Don't wait until then to look her up. She will be in Booth 1004 at the 2011 IAFE, where she will debut her promotional video.
