Populous Announces Smith Promotion
Populous, a global architectural de- sign firm with offices in Knoxville, Ten- nessee recently announced the pro- motion of Charlie Smith, AIA, NCARB, to the position of Senior Principal. Mr. Smith leads the Populous Exposition Park and Equestrian group. Populous
has 11 officers world-wide including London, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Kansas City and Denver. Significant projects by the firm include the new Yankee Stadium, Master Planners and Architects for the 2012 London Olympic Games, new arenas in Louisville, KY and Orlando, FL along with numerous exposition park and fairgrounds designs for the Calgary Stampede, Hous- ton Livestock Show, and the National Western Stock Show & Rodeo in Denver, CO. Mr. Smith recently returned from Austra- lia where he worked on the relocation of the Gold Coast Show- grounds. Charlie is a graduate of the University of Tennessee School of
Architecture and conducted additional studies in Urban Planning at the University of Venice, Venice, Italy. He is past president of the East Tennessee Chapter of the American Institute of Archi- tects, served on the Board of Directors of the International Asso- ciation of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE), and is a member of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth (RASC).
