REMEMBERING THOSE WHO HAVE PASSED AWAY……………………………………………….

Lee Holcomb Florida State Fair

Lee Holcomb passed away August 30, 2011. Lee lived a com-

plete life from the days of horse and buggy to the shuttle going to the moon, leading to iPods and GPS. He was always ahead of the times, utilizing this new technology ahead of many others. He was able to be successful at anything he took on, through hard work and effort having several lucrative occupations. After living a fulfilling life, he was ready to join Minnie. He headed up the Volunteer Department for many years at the

Florida State Fair and worked diligently to make the program grow and succeed. Lee was an active member of the Hillsborough County Fair for

many years and then held the respected position as a Director Emeritus on the Board of Directors.

Historical Exhibit Contest Submitted by Carol Reeves,

Historical Exhibit Committee Chairman The Florida Federation of Fairs will again offer the Historical

Display Contest. The purpose of the competition is for Florida Fairs to create displays to educate the public on how their Fair got started and how it has progressed through the years. Representatives from Florida Fairs are asked to use any

information available to them to create a display and provide information on their Fair. This would include such things as photographs, newspaper articles, memorabilia, and old docu- ments. Photographs of the display, along with short essays, will be

judged and rosette ribbons will be awarded at the 2012 Fed- eration convention, to be held in St. Augustine. Information about the contest will be available on the Fed- eration Web site.
