FLORIDA FAIR NEWS Continued…….……………………...……………………………..

The Second Annual Milton Rodeo

Hosted by the Santa Rosa County Fair Association was held September 23rd and 24th at the Santa Rosa County Fairgrounds arena. The event

was much more than just a great rodeo; it was a celebration of the history of the County. The theme of the event was, honoring the past, celebrating the present and planning for the future. A very special tribute was made to the late, Mr. Dan Mckenzie, a local business man and community leader. Mr. Mckenzie was an inspi- ration to all who had the pleasure to know him. The tribute was read by a long time family friend, Mr. Kyle Holley. The Mckenzie family was there as special guests. Also as part of our past was a historical display from the Santa Rosa County Tribe of the Creek Indians, and a cowboy heritage display. The celebration of the Present was a power house line up of

Rodeo contestants. This was a sanctioned International Profes- sional Rodeo Association (IPRA) event, Friday night our returning champion barrel racer returned from a trip out west, where she competed at the Cheyenne rodeo, to defend her title here at home. Saturday night rodeo fans were treated to some of the best

bareback bronc riding in the Southeast as 2010 International Pro- fessional Rodeo Association champion Joshua Cragar competed against Mark Kreuder (No. 14 in the IPRA), also regional points leaders and NCAA bareback riders Jack Kaitif (Sam Houston State University) and Colt Kaitif (Sam Houston State University) participated. Colt Kaitif won Saturday night with an 84 point ride while Cragar was second with 77 followed by Jack Kaitif with 76 points The bull riding competition went to the bulls, but these were

no ordinary bulls, these are top athletes’ from the IPRA, NFR, PRCA, and PBR. They were 2000 lbs. of pure muscle, big horns and lots of attitude. It takes a lot of cowboy just to get on in the shoot, but get on they did! The crowds loved it and made lots of noise to cheer on the fight! In the end one lone cowboy stayed on for the magical 8 seconds and took home the prize money! The fans were treated to 2 hours of Great competition and

entertained by Pro rodeo announcer Rowdy Pope and IPRA Ro- deo Clown of the Year for 2010, Dusty Myers. This dynamic duo kept the crowd entertained and the riders safe and the excitement flowing right up to the end, when live music turned the evening from competition to full blown celebration. The 2nd Annual Milton Rodeo came to a close with a very happy, satisfied, but very tired SRC Fair board watching the long lines of traffic departing as we began planning next year’s event, hoping our new covered arena will be completed by then, however, before we can Rodeo again it’s circus time! In November, we will be hosting the Zerbini Family Circus

for another fun filled Family Event Hosted by the Santa Rosa County Fair Association, Inc. Hmmmmmm Maybe we can put cowboys on elephants? Just a thought!

“Cowbells and Carousels”

tural Fair. The Fair is scheduled for March 29th – April 7, 2012. The Board selected the theme to promote our agriculture base and reinforce our vision of always being “A Family A*Fair.” This is always an exciting time for us …a new Board was set at

will be prominent at the 26th Annual Clay County Agricul-

“Cowbells and Carousels”

the end of June. They elected the officers as follows: Chairman— Johnny Mack Smith; Vice Chairman— Sharonda Johnson; Secre- tary—Virginia Hall; Treasurer—Andrea Tharp. We welcomed Becky Trexler as a new Board member this year. Job one after electing officers was committee assignments. Next

was a fresh start to planning hours of operation, daily themes and promotions for our 26th Annual Fair. Currently our team is actively involved with budgets, updating

the rules for competitive exhibits, contacting sponsors and vendor partners, and updating our website, not to mention trying to stay active on Facebook. Yes, there’s a lot to do in the “off season” for us. This is a special year for us. We are starting a whole new chap-

ter in our growth. Last year we purchased additional land and now plan to develop a portion of it to expand our parking. This is a very exciting and much needed project. Last year we were blessed to set another new attendance re-

cord. However, we disappointed many of our guests since we had to close early the last day. This was the second time in three years we had to close due to running out of parking spaces. All other capital improvement projects have been put on hold while we implement the parking lot expansion project. Our goal is to have it completed prior to the start of the 2012 fair. This will add another 1200 parking spaces. We will be meeting with our Midway provider, Deggeller Attrac-

tions, in November at the Volusia County Fair to plan our arm- band promotions for 2012. We are optimistic about our 2012 Fair, even though the econ-

omy is still sluggish. We have had the same economic conditions for the past three years and it worked to our favor. We enjoyed our best Fair ever in 2011. We have big numbers to beat but we are optimistic. If we are blessed with good weather, we think we’ll set another new record. We hope your schedule will allow you to join us and help cele- brate our 26th Anniversary.
