Pasco County Fair

“Ridin,’ Rockin’, and Livestockin’”

“Ridin,’ Rockin’, and Live-

stockin’”--- that’s the theme Fair chairman Tracy J. Thompson, and his committee, dreamed up for the 65th annual Pasco County Fair, slated for Feb. 20 through 26, 2012, at the Pasco County Fairgrounds in Dade City. “This year’s theme was chosen because it reflects many as-

pects of our County Fair --- from the rides and entertainment to the many livestock shows that we hold that week,” Thompson said. Thompson continued that he has already lined up a variety of

entertainment that will focus on the “rockin’” aspect of the theme, highlighted by a performance on Tuesday, Feb. 21, with “Rockin’ with Elvis.” The Elvis tribute artist includes a live band reminiscent of his Viva Las Vegas days. Of course, Thompson said, the “ridin’” part will be included all

Fair days with the spectacular midway rides for all ages. Ride wr istbands wi l l be featured al l

fai r days. And they will be ridin’ again on Friday, Feb. 24, and Saturday,

Feb. 25, at the annual Pasco County Fair PRCA Championship Rodeo, and again Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Pasco County Fair Demolition Derby. Both the rodeo and demolition derby are in- cluded with Fair admission. The livestock shows have been a part of the County Fair since

its beginnings 65 years ago. They include hogs, steers, heifers, dairy cows, goats, sheep, rabbits, cavy, and poultry. “There are plenty of other shows, exhibits, entertainment, and

just down home fun planned for the upcoming fair,” Thompson said. “Additional entertainment for the 7-day Fair will include: Robinson’s Racing Pigs; Ron Diamond; Sean Emery; and new to the Fair this year, A Grizzly Experience Bear Show; strolling act Lisa Lou; Steve the Pretty Good and an eco- friendly, edu- cational show Tropical Illusions. Wednesday night of the Fair will feature bluegrass artists, the Little Roy & Lizzy Show. Thursday’s Gospel Night will feature the Whisnants and the Dixie Melody Boys,” Thompson concluded. It is sure to be a Ridin’, Rockin’ & Livestockin’ good time!

Recognized by National Guernsey Association Roland and Patty Ripley have been valued members of

the

“State Fair Family” for many years. They first started as part of the Volunteer program and then 12 years ago Roland started overseeing the “Mooternity Ward.” Because of his involvement the State Fair has been able to work with Maple Lane Dairy/Aprille Farms to supply Dairy animals for the Mooternity Ward. We are proud of the fact that Roland Ripley of Ripley Farms,

Cortland, New York, was recently selected as the 2011 Ameri- can Guernsey Association Master Breeder Award recipi- ent. The award is given annually to an individual or farm that has made a significant lifetime impact towards the genetic im- provement of the Guernsey breed through careful and suc- cessful breeding of Registered Guernseys. It was presented to Roland at the recent Annual National Guernsey Convention held in Colliersville, Illinois
