Pirates ahoy for

Children in Need CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow may be a pirate but the High Sheriff of Surrey showed no sign of putting him under lock and key when they both turned up in Hurst Green recently.

Captain Jack, alias James Green, High Sheriff Professor Michael Joy and East Surrey MP Sam Gyimah were there to help welcome guests to the Children in Need event at St Agatha’s Hall organised by Matthew Leadbeater in October. Matthew has been raising money for Children in Need since 2002 and has so far collected more than £4,444.99 for the charity, which helps disadvantaged children. That figure includes the £652.57p raised at this year’s fun filled event. He decided to take up the cause after being bullied at college in his early teens. “I got a bit depressed but then I got help

and

support for over five years now,” he explained.

“I said to my mum that I would like to give something back for the help given to me and decided to do something for Children in Need.”

Matthew thanked all the helpers that come every year and to local shops and businesses, which donate items for the raffle.

The day featured lots of different activities from a piano accordian playing stilt walker and a nursery rhyme puppet show to a mini disco and magic show.

A big thank you from the CAB

THE Friends of Edenbridge and Westerham CAB have thanked all those who bought tickets in their harvest raffle, helping to raise £733 after expenses. The friends are grateful to the customers of the Co-op in Edenbridge, who bought tickets on Saturday, 24 September and to the store management for allowing their

sale. Thanks also go to businesses in the town, which sold tickets and/or donated prizes – Future Designs, Bradfords in Station Road, Capital Springs & Pressings, Eden Commercials, Amey Opticians, Paydens, Edenbridge Florist, EdenClean, Tom Bell, Magnolia Interiors; Something Special; Boots and Quality Tandoori.

This year the business to business exhibition will be held on Friday, 25 November from 10am to 6pm at the Soper Hall in Harestone Valley Road, Caterham. There will be up to 50 businesses promoting their services at the event including many exhibitors from previous years. The exhibition is being supported by Tandridge District Council, A Better Caterham – Shop Smart Shop Local and Surrey

Chambers of Commerce. It has been organised by local businessman Graham Tapley and his wife, Helen, of CR6 Publishing Limited, Glen O’Dwyer of Computer Solutions and Clive Wilson of Paramount Web Design. The event is also open to the public to make residents more aware of their local businesses. Cllr Martin Fisher, chairman of the resources committee, said: “We hope the day is a great success and generates business sales, as well as raises awareness of the diversity and quality of services in the area.” Mr Tapley said: “As in previous years this is an

excellent opportunity for businesses to market themselves to each other and the public.

“Previous exhibitions have been very successful, with extremely positive feedback and I expect this year’s to build on that and create a valuable networking opportunity. “We anticipate a far greater visitor footfall this year, due to the central location of the venue at the Soper Hall, combined with the ease of parking.” For more details call Graham Tapley on 07768 294200, or 01883 347284, or visit www.meetcaterhambusines s.co.uk.
