Loyalty card launch hailed a big success
THE Eden Valley’s own loyalty card is now up and running and hopes are high that it will boost the area’s economy.
A total of 32 businesses had signed up to the Eden Valley Chamber of Commerce backed scheme as The Chronicle went to press with many of the major shops such as the Edenbridge Galleries and the Mocha Bean cafe already on the list. “A good many of the shops in the High Street want to take part,” explained chamber president Peter Kingham. “What will happen now is that people will start asking ‘do you have a loyalty card?’”
Mr Kingham added that it was hoped to make the monthly prize draw a community event. The chamber has now confirmed that actor Leslie Grantham will pick the first winner during the Edenbridge Christmas shopping day on Saturday, 3 December as well as switching on the town’s festive lights.
Local businesses are enthusiastically backing the scheme with Ann Chappell, who runs Edenbridge Florist with her daughter Jo, adamant that the town was starting to thrive. “I am convinced that Edenbridge is seriously growing,” she said. “There is a passion for the town, which is very, very refreshing. People want Edenbridge to succeed.

in the High Street 43 years ago but moved out about 18 years ago to concentrate on her other floristry business in Lingfield. “We have been back here 18 months and the difference in that period of time is extraordinary,” she said.
Under the scheme shoppers will gain a stamp for every £10 spent at participating shops. When the card has six stamps it is then entered into a monthly draw with the first prize £50 in vouchers.
Collection points are located at the Edenbridge Florist at the southern end of the town and Magnolias Interiors at the northern end of the High Street. The winner will receive one £20, two £10 and two £5 vouchers to be spent at participating retailers. To join traders pay £40 a year and receive a stamp, window notice and printed loyalty cards to hand out to their customers. The chamber will redeem the spent vouchers from the prize pot. It is hoped that the prize will grow as the scheme gains more members so that by next Christmas there could be a much bigger amount up for grabs.
Traders will also be encouraged to put forward their own specials and offer extra prizes if they wish. For more information about joining the scheme call Mr Kingham on 01732 866444 or visit
