Already known as Best in Show, the trophy and £100 prize money were won by first time exhibitors the Severn and Wye Smokery who impressed the judges with their knowledgeable and friendly staff and their great display of smoking as well as their tanks of elvers. The runners-up were local favourite Mark Lobb Fish & Game, The Bath Pig, Norissimo Country Wines and Stokeley Barton Farm Shop. The winners and finalists were all delighted with the awards, so much so that one of the Severn & Wye team was moved to put pen to paper and write us a poem –


A Dartmouth Ode The


Call to arms came from Field Marshall Cook, to “ Tally Ho chaps now let’s take a look, At that jolly food festival, the pride of the south, Held on the banks at the river Dart’s mouth.”


So we loaded our Ambassador with Elizabeth his wife, With bubble and squeak and a box full of knives, Tanya our chef who’s the best in the west And Paula the poor girl who thought she had left.

weather with us we laid out our tools, Sustainable eels and Elvers in schools.


Var Salmon, Eel Speeks and Mackerel on platters, Along with the ultimate Dartmouth Fish Dabber.


In No time we’d started plying our trade


With our artisan smoke houses, that were clearly homemade


We smoked our fish, catering for more than a few

Of emotions were evident at the end of day, When Severn and Wye staff were taken away, With Richard Cook who was truly delighted, To receive the award that’s been clearly highlighted.

On that note we’ll finish for Dartmouth Food Festival 2011 except for a couple of final big thank-yous – one to the By The Dart team for putting together this year’s programme which proved essential in planning your weekend activities. And finally to all our volunteers without whom we couldn’t put these amazing few days on- so much work goes into them and you kept smiling throughout.
