well, actually that’s not strictly true, but you are invited to grab your gladrags, titivate your tiaras and hunt out your

heels for Dart Music Festival’s version of the hugely popular tv show at the guildhall on Saturday12th november, supported by our very own britannia volunteer big band. in the first half, local ‘celebrity’ couples (names tbc at a later date) will be performing some of the spectacular dances we all know and love, the winners being decided using the long-trusted ‘Clapometer’ method, so please clap very loudly for your favourite couple!

After the celebrity demonstrations, you will be able to take to the floor to strut your stuff when your favourite dance music starts up. So jazz up your jive, fire up your foxtrot and tart up your tango in readiness for the big night.

Please don’t worry if you’ve come to the conclusion that your more frenetic dancing days have come to an end, because actually taking part is not compulsory. You’re very welcome just to sit, watch and admire the various couples whirling round the dance

floor, although when your feet start tapping out a rhythm you might feel sorely tempted to take to the floor for a sedate waltz or two.

Personally speaking, these days

i’m fervently in agreement with lena Horne’s ‘new Fangled tango’ from way back in 1957 (ouch, was it that long?) where ‘you just sort of stand there and just sort of do it’, but i expect that would be allowed too, so no problem.

Doors open at 7.00pm and the competition begins at 8.00pm. there will be a cash bar and a selection of nibbles to top up those energy levels as you dance your way through the evening! Oh - and gentlemen, for those who want to dance, please dress according to the type of dancing you intend to do, ie something suitably flamboyant and as over-the-top as you dare for the tango, bossa nova, Salsa etc. For the more classic ballroom dances, perhaps wear what you would to a dinner-dance, but it’s not essential. My other half always says it’s boring and why should men have to look all the same? elementary, my dear watson - the girls sometimes need a foil for their rainbow of frocks and furbelows! Anyway, i think the chaps look pretty good - it is a uniform after all and you know what they say about men in uniform, so don’t despair! tickets are priced at £12.50 each and are available from 11 victoria road and baxters on Foss Street. from Mary Heywood
