atmosphere. After you have finished late night shopping you can enjoy a candlelit dinner in one of the many fine Dartmouth restaurants and bistros. On Saturday, the market stalls will be open from 10am to 7pm with carol singers and local entertainers. Enjoy exploring Dartmouth’s shops and galleries while listening to the buskers on street corners and watching jugglers and jollity as you go. At 11am you will need to head to Avenue Gardens for the Aah Factor – this is nothing to do with the X Factor but is the Nativity Play by the pre-school – and there will be a donkey there too! The children don’t know yet so it will be a surprise when they get there. For budding florists there is an opportunity to attend a special Christmas wreath-making workshop at the Flavel from 10am to 3pm, run by Heather Wilbourn, NCPF, from Flowersmiths, Dartmouth. Heather is a fully qualified teacher in floristry and trained in Holland. Her cousin, Steven Woodhams was a Gold medallist from the Chelsea Flower Show, so you are in safe hands! Book your place with the Flavel. Dartmouth has so many canine residents that it’s good to know that they are not forgotten. If you have a dog who likes an outfit get them entered for the Best Dressed Christmas Dog competition run by Linda from the Pet Shop. Entrants should be at the bandstand by 2pm.

The highlight of the weekend is the atmospheric lantern procession which starts at 5.30pm on Saturday. The beautiful, handmade willow and paper lanterns are made by local school children, families and creative teams at various workshops, so look out for some exciting shapes.

The procession, accompanied by musicians, winds through the narrow streets of beautiful Dartmouth before arriving at the Boat Float.

The procession route will

start from the Old Market and then heads through Foss Street, Anzac Street, Smith Street, the South Embankment, Lower Street and Fairfax Place so there are many opportunities to see all the lanterns. The route map will be on

display around the town. After the procession you can continue looking around the town and market or head for the Dartmouth Yacht club for some carol singing led by The Nauti Buoys.

This may be the last Candlelit

Dartmouth festival so do make the most of it! Enjoy the weekend and have a great Christmas. www.candlelitdartmouth.co.uk
